Jobless Singaporean with doctorate in education lost out two jobs to foreigners

Greetings from Dr Chua.

I would like to introduce myself. I was introduced to you by Caleb Loh, a close friend whom you helped during his distressful period of unemployment 6 years ago. Thank you for organising the Hong Lim Park (HLP) gathering yesterday as it helped Singaporeans to understand how politics is inextricably linked to our livelihood and future. I also met one of your speakers, Kelvin Lim who came with his daughters and had a fruitful discussion with him over a drink before the gathering at HLP.

I was a former CCC Secretary for more than 20 years and was also appointed as an Assistant Treasurer in PAP in the past. I also acted as a polling agent and counting agent as well as a SPO in a previous election. Currently I am a Grab/GoJek driver as well as a private tutor. Recently, I applied for various teaching jobs in Singapore as I wanted to be reunited with my family after working in Jakarta for 3 years. However, my 2 employment contracts prepared by 2 top international schools here were given to a HK teacher and an Indian national instead. So I hope you could provide me with career counselling and also discuss with me how I can contribute to a political cause as I am depressed and disillusioned with my job prospects and future in Singapore.

I am a trained teacher with a Doctor of Education from The University of Western Australia and have taught in Singapore, Shanghai and Jakarta in various subjects such as Business Management, Travel and Tourism, Business Studies, Theory of Knowledge, Commercial Studies, General Paper, English Language and Accounting. I also supervise in Extended Essays and Internal Assessments in IBDP.

Additionally, I was deployed as an Editor of ACS Jakarta school magazine, uniformed group teacher advisor and other curricular activities in various schools. Additionally, I was on the Devotion team and Boys’ Brigade in ACS Jakarta. My educational philosophy essentially is to make a positive difference to the school’s stakeholders, especially my students, by utilising my chosen field of specialisation, experience and qualifications.

Attached herewith is my CV for your kind reference. Thank you very much.

Have a fulfilling week ahead. Cheers!

Warm Rgds
Dr Chua
