28-year-old diploma holder worries about getting a $1,500 shipping line job and his future

Dear Gilbert,

Thank for your fast reply. And also your advice and attachment. I just feel down and depressed when I discover things are not easy as I thought when it comes to getting a job.

I am thankful that you want to meet me for a chat but it’s ok. Your reply is enough for me. Sure you can post on your blog but maybe you can remove my name.

At the age of 28, I really hope I am not left too far behind..unable to catch up. I always thought having a diploma will get me a starting pay of $2k and that it will be easy but it is not so. Even a $1.5k shipping job I cant guarantee of getting it plus I also don’t have the related skills. Nevertheless writing to you make me feel a little better.

Thank you for listening to me.

Best Regards,

  1. You Die Your Business says:

    1) Why is he jobless at 28 in the first place?

    2) When did he get his diploma?

If he went polytechnic at 17, after he finished National Service, he will be 22, by 28 he ought to have accumulated 5 years of work experience by then and should be earning at least a 2k salary by now.

So why is he seeking a 1.5k salary position?

    3) What did he study for his diploma? What is his work experience?

Why choose to apply for a job for which he has no work experience or any educational relevance to?

Just because he has a cert, that means society owes him a salary?
