Unemployed PMET finding it difficult to clear RES course to be property agent

Hi Gilbert,

As a senior moving into his 50s, life has been difficult. I attended the RES course and exam but failed and retook the second trial of exams only to fail again. I don’t know if you are aware of the RES exam and course but it is nearly impossible to pass. We, seniors, should be able to work and put grain of rice on our table.

CEA should not make it near-impossible for us to be self-employed in the real estate industry. The government kept saying that seniors should go out to work as many are being laid off but many encountered difficulties finding a job.

The exams were really tough and I was told by many practicing agents and course providers that the bulk of the exam contents have little to do with the day-to-day work of an agent. A newbie agent, should he pass, will be assigned to an agent and a mentor. So why make the exams so tough that we need to remember all the acts, fines, laws, etc as though I am sitting for a bar exam or a diploma? I knew of people sitting 6 times for the exams but failed.

Seniors should be exempted from this ridiculous exam as many of us have not sit through exams many eons ago and our brains are not as fast to digest the exam questions which are not in layman’s English language – it is more like reading a statute or legal form.

Real estate industry has been around for years before the inception of CEA in 2007.

I really don’t know if you can move mountain and convince a policy change or create awareness about seniors joining the real estate industry. I am at my wit’s end and desperate.

Hope to hear from you should you have any idea or proposal on the above matter.

Thank you.

Regards

Philip

The daft 70% voted for this. Why would the government made the exams so difficult that only foreigners can pass? Don’t they know that we locals cannot handle exams?

    Hi! Senior citizen Mr Philips,

What makes you think opportunities or priorities should be given to the senior? No one is saying senior should be able to work and put grain of rice on our table. I think it is fair enough for people of all ages to sit for a RES examination. Just because you cannot pass the examination you shouldn’t have put blame on CEA. What about those who pass the examination and you did not? You should blame yourself for not being clever enough to pass and not complaining about senior citizens. You complained that the exam had little to do with your work as an agent. All of us also study in schools and do you find whatever you study in schools have been useful in your working life? If you think the examination are hard to pass than maybe you try another job easier? Like a taxi driver or security guard?
Than again you complained that Seniors should be exempted from this ridiculous exam as many of us have not sit through exams many eons ago and our brains are not as fast to digest the exam questions which are not in layman’s English language? If that is the case, you can chose to retire now since your brain is getting useless. All you know is complain and complain. You would be lucky for no one yet call you stupid!
