PMET with accountancy degree lost his 12th-year job in the marine sector

Hi Gilbert,

I have recently lost my job. I have been in the marine industry since 2005 in both the civil and private sector and possessed a accountancy degree and diploma in Information Communication Technology.

I knew my days in the current job was numbered since last month as they were expecting their employees to be working on Saturday and Sunday.

So I started to look for jobs since.

I have attended a few interviews but always got rejected either due to high salary or they are looking for people with low calibre.

I have even resulted to reducing my salary demand by $1k but to no avail.

I have 2 kids who are still in pre school and a HDB mortgage loan that I need to pay for.

I dun mind any job right now as long as I can pay for all these things.

Hope you can advise and help me.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Haffiz

  1. xyz says:

The problem is your salary is too high. Even without you revealing your salary, I can tell that even if you lower by 50%, most companies will not even consider you.

If you want to get job faster, no choice but to accept $2K-$2.5K salary.

Just have to reflect that when you were getting fat pay during the good times, whether you kept on voting for PAPies, thinking that the status quo is good for you??

Actually to begin with, are you from recognised degree?
These days employer drill on qualification (local u, full professional degrees ie not obtained through exemptions). Accountancy is quite qualification driven industry. If you are not local certified accountant, it is naturally harder.
That is the first screening, followed by experience and pay scale.
