Jobless 29-year-old science graduate suicidal and seeking for assistance

Hi Gilbert

I am currently unemployed and 29 years old. I have a degree in science.

I am planning to study accounting to increase my job opportunities.

I hope I can get a job through this accounting cert.

I feel depressed. I got suicidal thoughts a few times a week.

I suffer from insomnia for a few years already. I took TCM pills to help me sleep when I was working.

I also have right wrist pain due to long usage of the mouse. The wrist brace I wear helps a bit only.

My parents are my only pillar of strength left. Should they unfortunately leave this world suddenly, suicide may become the next step.

Help!!!!

Thank you.

I hope to hear a response soon.

Jonathan

You are not alone.seek counselling for employment opportunities.

Why sort of a science degree? If you are in chemistry, physics (materials, surface science, etc),, biology, and have done quite well academically, you should apply to do a PhD somewhere. There is no career in science without a PhD. At best, you will be a lab or equipment manager.

Have you thought about why you want to get into accounting? Have you spoken to anyone in the field? I have personally known a few who left accounting. There isn’t much upside in accounting salaries and the work is tedious and boring. After investing much time into retraining, you might back at square one.

I don’t mean to sound negative but it is always wise to consider building upon what you already have in the first instance. You may be undergoing a transitory shock to your career, which could happen to anyone regardless of fields. Switching fields is always a risky thing to do and must not be taken lightly.

    Good luck.

No matter what your job is, there is bound to be stress and office politics everywhere. Changing the industry is not the solution. Even if you have interest in the job initially, you may be bored over time when you have to repeat the same tasks every day. Many people just work for food and money. Few people can have their dream job for life.

Why thinking to die at 29 years old? Life is full of stress for sure. If everyone have your kind of mindset then many more will die too.
