I’m a 40+ year old Singaporean (born here).
I have left my employment of many years, a few months ago, without a job.
I just couldn’t continue working there because of my financial issue.
I was also not getting regular pay nor receiving my allowances/claims.
I held on but the final straw came when they wanted to stop the CPF contributions. That was the final nail on the coffin for me.
After leaving, I felt a huge weight off my shoulders. I felt so relieved.
Like I was in a calmer place.
I have been looking for a new job before I left but nothing happened.
I kept submitting application after application.
All in all, I think I may have submitted over 300 job applications within 2 months. Not a single reply from anyone.
The stress and pressure from all sides were affecting me badly.
At the same time, I was reading a lot from various local social media – Singaporeans losing their jobs and the FT situation.
I knew there were just too many FTs and many fellow Singaporean brothers and sisters were facing problems along the way.
Only until when I was in the same boat, I felt something was really wrong and why these crappy things were happening to decent people.
I came across your website after reading a Facebook post.
I took the time to read many postings from tormented and lost souls in here. I feel for each and everyone of you.
This site is awesome and kudos to you bro.
My savings are currenty depleting and my ex-company still owes me back pay too.
Finally, towards end of December I received a phone call for an interview. If you could see me then… I mean you could have knock me down with a feather!!!
I went for the interview but didn’t think I could get the job because of the competition.
Then sometime in early January 2015, I got a call for a 2nd interview and they offered me the position!
The pay was very good + benefits.
So, there I was just waiting for the final employment letter to be drafted Then the next day later, I got a call for another interview from another company.
I went for this new interview. It was for a bigger position than I expected but I do not count my chickens before they hatch!
This interview went smooth, I think.
But the next day they called me for a 2nd interview. I had gone for the 2nd interview ad now I’m just waiting.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful about the original job offer and I’d taken the offer.
I’m writing this letter to you and to all readers, I say don’t fret.
There will be shit, depression, stress, money issues, spouse troubles etc etc. but just keep trying and don’t give up.
Recently, I had an interesting talk with a nice elderly gentleman about work in general etc and he offered me one advise — Shelf your EGO & just take the first job you get.
Then slowly iron out all your other problems.
Thank you very much.
