Can we trust the Prime Minister as many Singaporeans feel that their jobs are being taken away instead.
Hi Gilbert
I am Singaporean female PR (Indian nationality) and have been in Singapore since 2008.
I got married last year in Nov 2011 and my husband who was studying in Australia, completed his education and since this year Feb 2012 has moved in with me to Singapore.
He is currently on long term visit pass of one year, but owing to the fact that its verydifficult to get a job here without a PR, we decide that I shall sponsor his PR application since spouse can sponsor for PR.
After 4 months of wait, we got a rejection letter.
We are simply clueless as to what should be done, both my husband and I are masters degree holders, we have a decent amount of savings and my CPF balances are also good.
We have been living in the same condo for the last 4 years and I work in a multinational bank.
Awaiting your input and based on the above scenario is there any hope if I reapply for him after a wait of 6 months and is it a practice in Singapore to approach immigration lawyers to make a stronger case?
Many thanks for your time.
May be its not relevant to the above scenario but I had applied for my citizenship last year in August, the result of which was given to me after 9 long months of wait - rejected.
Thanks.
Regds,
Indira
Editor’s Note: We are unable to provide any assistance on this case as we are not migration experts. We also only provide support to jobless Singaporeans.

There are some information not provided by the Indian National.
1. She has been here since 2008, but in which year did she get PR? Normally, the appropriate period to get citizenship is at least 2 years after PR approval. And also it may not always get approval. So just apply the next year.
2. Husband just came to Singapore in February 2012. Very often there is no immediate approval, especially if it is based on sponsorship by SPR. A stronger case will be for Singapore citizen sponsorship.
3. If he really got master degree from Australia, then its better to get SPR based on his own merit when he get job on his own. Also, there must be some time of acclimatisation before PR approval is accepted.
Don’t waste money on so called immigration lawyers. The ICA have their own policies with regards to the acceptance/rejection of PR applications. Hiring lawyers is just a sign that you want to fight these policies, which have been formed up by our Government. It’s just throwing money away.
Most of the time, it’s just a matter of time before such applications are approved.
After all, we have a vert friendly PR policy…although it does not always mean IMMEDIATE approval….which should not be the case anyway.
Please don’t bother, just return to India, we do not need another foreign trash in this country.
I was watching & reading the news on TV/newspapers about economic reforms in India the other days.
After the PM announced India will allow foreign retail giants to enter India market as part of the economic reforms. Several political parties immediately pulled out from the coalition government. Strikes & blockages were seen all over India. They don’t want foreign retail giants to come, dominating the market, forcing local retailers to close shops & destroying the living balance etc.
Many have called us racists & accused us of promoting racism & anti-foreigners thinking here. Well, we are just protecting what is being left from further damages, doing the same thing as others are doing now to protect their own livelihood & maintaining the living balance.
From what is being reported on the news, we knew that the Australia govt is also stopping refugees from stepping foots on their soils too. Hongkongers are also preventing the mainlanders from flocking into HK.
Our forefathers came from PRC, ROC, India, Indonesia, Malaysia or UK etc. during the early settlements period, when S’pore is still a under developed village or country. There are a lot of spaces & opportunity then. Now it is congested with people. Workplace bullying, locals being replaced by foreigners over job & edu opportunity, salary depression, HDB flat became expensive etc. all these have become part of our lives. Is this the kind of S’pore that we want?
My company has highly qualified European professionals who are unsuccessful having their PRs approved. It is much tougher now. good luck.
In the past, MOM allowed foreign degree holders or professionals to come & live in S’pore for one year to look for jobs. Sg govt was welcoming foreigners to compete with locals for jobs, education & housing. Abolishment of this scheme was only make possible after GE2011. I remembered it was abolished in early or mid 2012.
When Sg govt recruited foreign researchers or highly qualified European professionals to work for them. Sg govt also provided help to ensure their family members got their places in schools & high paid jobs. These foreigners have became VIP of Sg govt/PAP. You will find these foreigners mostly working in NUS, NTU, SIT, SUTD, SMU, A* etc. They were invited to apply for PR by ICA.
In the past, many foreign NUS/NTU students were invited to apply for PR. Foreign professionals such as SIA pilots were also invited to apply for PR. Sg PR was cheap as it was easy to get one. One of my relative’s M’sia nephew was even invited to convert to citizenship & join the SAF as officer!
Singapore PR and citizenship is dirt cheap and has no value…Any Tom, Dick and Harry can apply and get one….if not approved not then it can be slightly later..those citizens who married foreign spouse or with foreign born kids are given least priority to their dependents when applying for PRs or Citizenship…the system sucks..
Right now, only WP can take on PAP. I hope the SPR policy can be abolish after WP become the ruling party.
This SPR policy has created too many problematic issues.
Agree that with PAPies legs-open policy of calling any villager as “foreign talent”, there is no value to PR or EP status. They’re being given out like toilet paper. Appropriate term since most of the recipients are more like foreign trash.
The true test is if they are real Talents, why the fuck are they flocking to S’pore and so desperate to get a job here? You can get much higher pay doing the same jobs in other developed cities. A number of my relatives are earning million-dollar pay in New York, London, even Shanghai. They told me if they stayed in S’pore they will only get up to $500K max.
S’pore population has just increased from 5.26m to 5.31m!
What the heck is this? I thought the floodgate for foreigners has been shut & the influx of foreigners has been stopped? This confirmed PAP is playing a two hands game. On one hand, they agreed to stop the influx of foreigners but on the other hand, it allowed the floodgate for foreigners to remain open. I felt cheated.
Its a blessing in disguise. I think you can forget Singapore and go elsewhere like US. My friend who is also from india also did that and now he has a good job, a big house, a big car in US.
Yes, please kindly return to your own country. You have live here, I’ve seen how foreigners have caused overcrowding, increase cost living, increase cost of housing, inflation and infrastruture stress to our transport systems. Please have a heart and stop taking advantage of us. To say it direct, it is a form of invasion. Do you want your country to be invaded? Have a heart, please leave Singapore. Thanks.

Before talk pls think twice.., government knows thins things well that’s why they hiring foriegn talent.., they are not stupid … This younger generation hates foriegners cos u never know how this country has been built.. Hats off to Mr. Lee
There is at least 1 Singaporean cleaning on the roads that I know of.
If minimum wages are introduce in Spore like most develop countries…I’ll reckon Sporeans will not be choosy in doing any jobs cause their salary is sustain to last them monthly.
