Dear Gilbert,
Still remember me? Anyway, I have some bad news that I would like to share with you. Remember when I first emailed you, I was with a media company doing marketing…
Actually, things had been well after then, and I have people telling me that marketing is the career path that I should be going. Well, when I thought that things will be better when I decided to move to a new company doing a wider scope. Unfortunately, dreams and reality are somehow very different.
In the new company, my boss is career-driven lady (I would not call her a slave-driver though), having calls and messages as late as 10pm, and even have to clear my work until 10pm almost everyday.
Along the way, I thought to myself that since I am still young and I don’t want to be labelled as a “strawberry”, I pushed myself and worked all my way till even midnight at times and to skip my part-time classes. In the end, my health got affected. I even landed in A & E once due to chest pains. In the end, I tendered my resignation.
No, don’t get me wrong. I’ve never intend to send this email asking for assistance to look for a job. In fact, I am giving myself a good break for now, catching up on more sleep, doing more exercise and finding more time to spend with my beloved ones. And I was planning of looking for a job as a waiter at start-up cafes, earning myself pocket money that I have enough to spend for myself, while studying and get it done and over with.
While I can emphatise with many of those jobless that they have other worries to face, such as paying bills, supporting family et cetera. I would count myself lucky that I still have my mum and sis to depend on for now.
Now, and since I have more time on my hands, I would like to see if I can be of a help to your group in any way possible.
Please also accept my sincere thanks for facilitating a career lookout for me, although I’ve quite resigned myself to be a barista in a cafe!
Ultimately, my wish is to be financially independent from my parents and get myself a temporary assignment for the time being.
By the way, allow me to introduce to you my career and educational background as below.
I am currently 27 years of age this year, and I am pursuing a Bachelor of Communication in Communication Studies and Public Relations on a part-time dissertation.
Prior to that, I have pursued a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in Singapore Polytechnic.
My past six years of working life has seen me in various stints and position, ranging from engineering, customer service to marketing.
Prior to my employment with company A, I had worked with company B as a Customer Service Officer. I was tasked to handle enquiries pertaining to basic banking products, as well as services of non-investment nature in an efficient manner. In addition, I also worked with my branch colleagues by initiating cross-referral of products and services, so as to achieve sales target and KPIs for the branch.
With regards to my direction in career, I am inclined to work for firms, big or small, that allows me to hone my writing or marketing skills. This is especially so that I am currently pursuing a degree in Mass Comms, and knowing that this will be the direction that I want to venture into. However, that said, I am also keen into working for other organizations that requires a jobseeker to communicate with stakeholders and/or customers.
For your reference, I’ve attached my updated resume in PDF format in this email. I look forward to meeting you personally this Tuesday. Please let me know if you need further clarification from me.
Sincerely,
Philip

Young man, it seems you lack direction. Consider what you really want to do and move towards it. Having a poker dot resume does not bode well. Try approaching CDC or CDAC for resume fine tuning and career consultation, they should easily get you a Job in a cafe or at places like sushi teh etc. In Singapore, working to 10pm is quite the norm and if you intend to climb the ranks, you need to clock the hours. All the best!
