A 20-year-old Nepalese man charged with raping an exchange student from Singapore aboard a yacht in Causeway Bay typhoon shelter will appear in the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts today.
Another 20-year-old man charged with aiding and abetting the rape will also appear, while a 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting has been released on bail, and ordered to report back to police later this month.
Sing Tao Daily, sister publication of The Standard, cited a source as saying that three Nepalese men were suspected of involvement in raping the 22-year-old university student.
The three men allegedly lured her there from a bar in Lan Kwai Fong.
A police spokeswoman yesterday declined to name the suspects, reveal their nationalities, or disclose the alleged victim’s age and nationality.
The spokeswoman would only say a woman had filed a complaint on June 29 that she had been raped aboard a yacht, resulting in police arresting three non- Chinese men, aged 20 to 21.
Sing Tao reported the woman went to the area alone that night and later apparently got drunk. The three men, who worked in the pub where the woman was drinking, then invited her to a yacht to join a party, Sing Tao said, and they took a taxi to Causeway Bay typhoon shelter.
After receiving the woman’s complaint, police investigated the yacht, and watched closed-circuit television footage of the pub to look for clues.
The police spokeswoman said the marine police crime unit is still investigating.
