Farewell, ‘Thriller’ Michael and ‘Angel’ Farrah – the world will miss you

I WOKE up yesterday to the shocking news of the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. As I write this e-mail message, tears roll down my cheeks as I try to reconcile myself to their deaths.
Both celebrities made an impression on me as I am 48, and thus grew up when they were at their peak.
Fawcett was the sex bomb among the three actresses who lit up TV screens in the original hit series Charlie’s Angels. The series was reprised and updated a generation later on the movie screen. Needless to say, like many young men then, I had a giant poster of Fawcett in my bedroom, the last image I looked at before I fell asleep each night.
Fawcett’s death, of cancer from which she had suffered for some time, was perhaps the less surprising of the two. Jackson’s was simply shocking. The world grew up with his monster hit album Thriller. His songs helped me cope with national service and remain a familiar part of my life, wherever I go and in all I do.
Like many, I shall miss Michael and Farrah.

Hi Gilbert
Yes, read your article in the Straits Times this morning. Now I know you are a great fan of these 2 celebrities.
For me, I will just miss some of Michael’s songs. For Farrah, I will always remember her pretty young look.
