Diary of Someone In Transition – My 2nd Talk

My 2nd public talk was conducted at Care Corner today and it was attended by about 20 people.

A mixture of hotline counsellors and people in transition came to support the event.

It was a little different from my first talk at ECTA as perhaps after the first talk, I could feel that it flowed better this time round. Perhaps it is practice made perfect here?

Anyway,  it was nice talking to people again about my experiences. Somehow I could feel the energy flowing when I spoke publicly. I learned from my first talk’s feedback to enggae the participants and allowed a little sharing from some of them. During my first talk, I spoke alone and could feel that at times I have lost the audience.

This time I could see that the audience is engaged and there was also a spirited dialogue ongoing on the issue of the Chinese speaking low end workers not able to find work here.

There was now the challenge on a request to do my next talk in Mandarin! It was unthinkable few years back  but after  been “trained” in China for a year I guess it is time to see how good my Mandarin has being.

We stayed on one ahour after the session and many are still locked in fruitful discussion. I could see that such session can become meaningful networking session and may even end up in some having possible employment opportunities.

For me, it was a good session of sharing and encouraging one another.   The feedback form handed back was also encouraging though I still need to restructure my talk better.

Thanks all for those who turned up today.   Try now to find meaning in transition!
