I was unemployed for a month already since April 12 and time flew by fast…
I was also busy doing up the society’s work and that made me an unpaid worker here! It was good not to have time to think about my jobless issues as I am out mostly either networking with organisations or attending our society’s support sessions.
Most evenings I have to sleep at around midnight updating my website. I also have to answer emails promptly. I must say that despite not earning an income at all, I found my work satisfying. I have asked many here to volunteer their time as this not only allowed us to pass some free time, which we have alot, but also gave us a sense of purpose in our life.
The worse thing is to syat at home doing nothing. There were two or three nights that I woke up and after trying too hard to sleep again I found that I would lay awake for an hour or more. This never happened when I was gamefully employed. Is this the psychological consequence for the unemployed? There is still this slight worry about when you will be employed again. However, I am more steady now having gone through a prolonged period of unemployment. You know what to expect and avoid the potholds so call.
I still exercise as regularly as ever if not more and read widely. I hung around with people who will influence me positively though now I have to also meet up with some jobless people. I tried to meet all my readers at least once so that I know the situation that they are in. Some gave me very good feedback on what kind of activities would benefit them. I am thankful for their generous feedback. As I faced the second month unemployed, there is a growing confidence that I am doing something beneficial here to help those who are jobless. Hopefully, more people will know about our services and look us up for assistance.
We also need morep eople to come to us to volunteer their time and expertise to help one another.
