Diary of someone in transition (day 11)

This would be the second full week that I am unemployed but I felt like working full time as I ran about working for transitioning society. There were many meetings to attend and this week I met up with three people who are unemployed.
We also had our support group series no 3 today and it was fun.
Seven of us came together and Alan moderated the session. I always learn alot from each session.
We also had three newcomers to the session and we learned how to cope during unemployment.
Christine, who works in the career consultancy line, spoke about using networking to go after our next job.
“It is not what you know but who you know that matetrs now,” she gulped.
How true. I remembered my past five jobs were all recommended by friends. Perhaps, I am not shy about telling people to refer me job vacancy if there is any. I would mass email my friends telling them that I am jobless now and please can they help me if they see something good on their company’s HR newsletter?
Sometimes, after one interview from a referral, the job is yours. There is not further second or third interview and I realised that reference is very powerful. O fcourse, you must be able to do the job competently and meet most of the employer’s requirement. It will be very tough if you could not perform the job adequately due to a job mismatch.
Likewise, I also helped some of my friends got jobs previously and they always thanked me for helping them.
I guess in this dark time, when we help others, we likewise will also be helped. What we sow we will also reap…
So let us go and do good to one another!
