JOB SPECIFICATION

JOB TITLE : Speech Therapy Assistant DATE :

DEFINITION – Therapy Aide is a technically educated health care provider who assists the therapists in the provision of therapy.

INTER-RELATIONSHIP
 Direct : Speech & Language Pathologists
 Indirect : Clients – Children and Adults with disabilities

PRACTICE STANDARDS & GUIDELINES The latest Guidelines and Standards issued by the National Council of Social Service will be strictly adhered to (copy attached)

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB DESCRIPTION :

1. Provide individual and group therapy under the supervision of the therapists.
2. Participate in therapy related activities for the clients
3. Provide administrative support to the department
4. Maintain good housekeeping and safety standards.
5. Undertake any duties assigned by the Speech & Language Pathologists and / or Head, Department of Speech & Language Pathology

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Provide individual and group therapy under the supervision of the Speech & Language Pathologists
.
a. Carry out therapeutic procedures under the guidance and instructions provided by the therapists.
b. Hold discussions with the therapists regarding clients assigned and clarify details if unsure.
c. Maintain high ethical standards and professionalism in work.
d. Update therapy notes on clients regularly.

2. Participate in therapy related activities for the clients.

a. Interact with clients and their families.
b. Maintain therapeutic aids and equipment as advised by the therapists
c. Help in organising therapy sessions and participate in them if necessary.
d. Observe therapists during therapy and learn from them.
e. Make communication charts and other therapy materials as advised by the therapists.
f. Attend Case discussion and Case presentation sessions in the Department.

3. Provide administrative support to the department and Speech & Language Pathologists.
a. Help in maintaining documentation of all planned and rendered programmes.
b. Maintain a database of all cases treated, scheduled for treatment, evaluation results and other records.
c. Maintain a database of department inventory.
d. Maintain a record of important events and visitors to the department.
e. Answer telephone with good etiquette. Contact therapists, clients or their family members when required.
f. Attend Departmental meetings and training sessions regularly.

4. Maintain good housekeeping and safety standards.

a. Responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the department.
b. Responsible for the “switching off” of all gadgets, equipment and lights at the end of the day.
c. Keep wastage to the minimum.

5. Undertake any duties assigned by the Speech & Language Pathologists and / or Head of Department of Speech & Language Pathology.

a. Assist and support to any Training programme organized by the Department.
b. Participate in other activities organised by the Department, Association or School.

  1. Although a person can learn at any age there are some that say the best way is to start young in martial arts. Traditionally that is how it was done. Sometimes it seems that children do not have the attention span for this and it is hard to keep them engaged and interested.
