Support Group Meeting on 27 Mar 09

Number of View: 530

The support group session took off on 27 Mar (Fri) with 8 participants  with equal representation by both gender. Most of us are in our early 40s to late 50s.

We generally had a good time of sharing and strengthening with one another.

Most were jobless for at least three months or more with some for about a year or so.

It was surprising that  everyone was so care free with their sharing for the first session and this set the stage for a positive framework of sharing one’s  coping mechanism and also woes.

Alan, the facilitator,  moderated well by asking us to share how we cope in our jobless state.

Many shared that they cope by relying on religion, family and friends.

We learnt alot from one another as we also shared our feelings on our jobless state. Some expressed that they are lost whereas others manage better by doing some simple PT work to make ends meet.

Generally, those who are more positive in their outlook of their jobless state tend to do much better than those who are pessmistic or worry alot.

The next session will be held in two weeks’ time and I am sure those who turned up today will try their best to attend the next one.

It is when we find the resources within our own community that we can say that many helping hands are available for care and support.

Othes who want to attend such support group sessions can email me at gilbert@transitioning.org.
