Dear Readers
Since the pre-launch of this networking support site for the unemployed in January 09, we have experienced a beehive of activities.
Many organisations have approached us either to partner them in our activities or simply send us their well wishes. To them, we want to express gratitude and sometimes we felt overawed.
We are blessed to have a good team of abled tireless volunteers working behind the scene. Without their support, this site will not be as useful as it is now. Of course, we will do our best to serve the needs of many out there as retrenchment will only climb in the next few months.
Personally, my teaching contract will also end in mid April and there is a mixed feeling as I go about setting up and updating this blog. Perhaps, setting up this blog has also given me the impetus to do something meaningful for both the community and myself. Sometimes, I could not sleep peacefully knowing that I will join the endless queue of jobless out there in the community come April.
We have a healthy daily visitor volume of around 250 a day and we are more than satisfied with such a high turnout given that the blog site is only less than 2 months old. There are many that email me with suggestions and I will take note of them diligently and implement them as and when possible with my limited voluntary strength. Keep the ideas coming.
On a brighter note, we have registered ourselves with ROSE and will get the approval hopefully by the end of March. The society Transitioning – Unemployment Support Services (TUSS) will want to do more to serve the unemployed community in Singapore.
I will also inform some churches and welfare companies that we will be providing free talks to them if they do need our services.
We have approached some government bodies to see if we can conduct workshops for the unemployed who have visited CDCs and e2i. I can only comment that the outcome looks promising though nothing is firm up now.
I am happy also to inform readers that I am launching my book “How to survive unemployment” this Saturday 7 Mar 09 at 5.30pm at Bishan Library Level 2. The society will also be launched on the same day by Guest Of Honour Ms Jessica leong, Clinical Director of Executive Counselling & Traning Academy (ECTA).
I want to honour my traning academy that provided me so much in terms of training and personal application. Much of who I am is gleaned from my training experiences with them. It is only right that I honoured my master.
I also want to thank Mr Fred Tok, owner of Lee Community College whom I have fond memories of when I took the Diploma In Psychology way back in 2005. They provided me the initial training on psychological knowledge.
Lastly, I want to thank all readers who stay loyal despite the site’s limitations. We solicit your ideas and contribution and hope that you will drop by this Saturday to support one another together as the book and society will be launched.
Thank you.
