Hi Gilbert,

I was drawn to an article reported in the national newspaper recently that prompted me to visit your website and I came away being impressed by your thougthfulness and caring deposition. Its simply a fantastic platform for unemployed and retrenched people to band together and share their thoughts and feelings.

I had been retrenched once before and if that wasn’t enough, my subsequent job was lost not due to retrenchment but rather the company faced financial difficulties, and had to wind up despite the company had been around for more than 20 years. And as recent as back in Sept last year, I joined a major insurer company, doing international corporate business and barely four months into the job and was asked to leave, though I feel aggrieved that I may have been asked to leave on a very unfavorable ground. I felt that I have done my utmost best and, in fact, I was even praised for having positive work ethics. I felt that i wasn’t given enough chances to prove my worth, sometimes, I wonder what is the purpose of having a six-month probation when they said that four-months period is suffice to come to a conclusion whether you can be part of the company’s culture.

I was equally depressed this time round though I must say that I have handled my emotions well so far, I remain positive everyday. Its quite common to go through the emotional roller-coaster ride that many of the retrenched are facing now, but I am confident they will overcome these stages and finally accept that this is a cycle they will go through and its only temporary. They will eventually find find their niche career path.

I am most keen to be part of the team and hope that by sharing, we can forge forward with new zest and vitality.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Tan (name changed to protect the identity of the reader)
