Ads for professional jobs drop 41 per cent

The figures confirm what job seekers already knew – jobs were not available in plenty towards the end of last year. And those available were for people who could deliver quick results.

From October to December last year, the number of jobs advertised for professional roles in Singapore fell by a hefty 41 per cent overall, a quarterly Asia Job Index survey from international recruitment consultancy Robert Walters has shown.

:Singapore, surveyed alongside China, Japan and Hong Kong, registered the biggest decline overall. China’s drop was 12 per cent.

The strongest demand was still for sales and business development professionals who could deliver an immediate, positive impact to the bottom line and for finance professionals to deliver cost savings, said the consultancy.

But the economic downturn meant that vacancies for accounting and finance personnel herefell by 45 per cent, and those for retail servicing and sales andbusiness development personnel, by 37 per cent.
